The Extron GLI-250 is a device known to us all as a somewhat effective, active signal humbucker. Where most people make their mistake is in assuming that the GLI-250 has little or no effectiveness compared to transformer humbuckers. The trick we have found in using the GLI-250 is to not run the sync signal(s) through it. If you couple the sync signal(s) past the GLI-250 with a barrel and pass only the active picture signals (RGB) through the GLI-250, you will find a huge improvement over any other method of utilizing the Extron GLI-250. In many cases the GLI-250 will perform as well or better than a transformer humbucker coil when hooked up in this manner. Additional measures such as judicious AC ground lifting of either end of the signal chain will generally get you where you need to go when battling aggravated hum situations in visual signal chains. (we do not advocate operating any piece of AC powered equipment without a safe ground fault path).
